Modeling the spatial and temporal variability of surface temperature for a homogeneous soil with relief

This study deals with the simulation of the spatial and temporal variability of surface temperature for grounds with relief. The developed 1D approach of the simplified model expresses the temperature of a point by a combination of the "shadow" and "sun" temperatures of a corresponding horizontal flat soil. The phenomena dominating the temperature variability was demonstrated by measurements made over a model made plaster with a sinusoidal profile. The results allow us to validate the 3D thermal code.Several analytical 1D models are developed and validated with this 3D code. Applying the "sun/shadow" method through the Fourier domain leads to a good agreement between the model and the 3D reference solution.
