On Z_p-extensions of real abelian number fields

This thesis focuses on the so-called Greenberg Conjecture in Iwasawa theory, stating that the class numbers of number fields belonging to a Z_p-extension of a real number field are bounded. We discuss some criteria for the Conjecture to hold as well as applications to the arithmetic of Cyclotomic Units.
