The Regum Aragonum res geste are a large-scale Latin chronicle, written by the Aragonese jurist Gonzalo García de Santa María at the beginning of the 16th century in Saragossa. It relates the heroic deeds of the kings of Aragon between the 8th century and the death of Alfonso V in 1458. The aim of this thesis is to bring to light the text of this work, which, until now, was not only unpublished, but has also been considered as lost for a long time. This text is based on an autograph draft kept at the Biblioteca de Catalunya. This present thesis therefore gives new material to reexamine hypotheses that were made in absentia about this text and its role and place in the context of the Aragonese historiography around 1500. The two goals of the edition are to reconstitute the text and to uncover the drafting processes that were at work in the elaboration of the manuscript. The introductory chapters study the context of production of this chronicle. They offer at first a codicological analysis that presents the material conditions in which this unique testimony of the chronicle was realized. They then examine the various aspects that influenced the redaction and study how the author is belonging to different social, political and cultural nets; how the chronicle is related to the ones of Vagad and Marineo Sículo; and what its literary and historiographical models are. In fine, this thesis intends to show how the Regum Aragonum res geste are taking part into the stylistical, historical and ideological debates of their time. It also means to contribute to the highlighting and exploration of the dynamics at work in Saragossa, as a major historiographical center.
