This work proposes to use a functional analysis in the design process of static converter structures. Such an analysis is detached from a given technology and aids the designer to obtain several solutions from the same spécifications. The approach presented hère is restrained to the design of static converters but it can be extended to the study of complète electric drives. In this way, a model is proposed for the functions in order to define and handle them. Add to this, a cohérence analysis of the functional graphs is carried out in order to aid the designer during a functional graph building. It may indicate some working problems and even it may propose several solutions to solve Uiem. A software has been made to test thèse concepts. This tool carries out only the cohérence checking and asks the designer to choose the functions and their corresponding structures.
