Hybrid systems in Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films

This work deals with the formation and characterization of new organic-inorganic systems using the Langmuir films and the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Different ways have been explored to obtain thin hybrid films with several properties, in particular magnetic properties. The interaction between the cationic layers and the anions in the subphase has led to the organization of different inorganic polyanions in lamellar structures. This strategy has been then generalized to Prussian Blue colloids, which are extended bimetallic compounds. A large study (from preparation to characterization) has been carried out with mixed materials consisting of Prussian Blue and an amphiphile derivative of Ru(bpy)3 2+. There has also been demonstrated that the crystallization of Prussian Blue and analogs is favored beneath Langmuir films. Finally, the coordination of ions in the subphase with amphiphilic molecules at the interface allows to obtain new systems that can form LB films, as it is the case of cyanometallate-based compounds.
