Prosodic characterization and recognition of the declarative modality of the Spanish in Canary Islands

Our research is part of the AMPER (Multimedia Prosodic Atlas of the Romance Area) project and its main objective is to provide a more systematic prosodic characterization of the declarative modality of the Spanish spoken in the Canary Islands. After a detailed analysis combining linguistic and sociolinguistic variables, the acoustic and perceptive results confirm that, beyond the coincidences with other varieties, the intonation of the Canary Islands Spanish is perfectly recognizable.
