Formulation and morphologies of starch-based polymer blends

The main objective of this work is the development of innovative materials from renewable resources for the automotive industry. Polymer blends of polyamide 12 and plasticized starch prepared through internal mixer and extruder processes, were studied as model blends. In order to improve the final properties of the blends, two strategies were considered: the compatibilization via two reactive agents and the modification of the process parameters. These strategies were proved to be truly effective to improve the properties of the blends. Finally, materials from renewable resources were processed. As well a compatibilization step thanks to a solid epoxy resin were considered to obtain materials with improved properties.
