Gated communities are expanding amongst a wide range of social and territorial contexts. Having watched the phenomenon over two most different urban environments (Nantes / France and Recife / Brazil) we intend to go past the actual contexts and point out a new way of living in modern cities. We ought beforehand to qualify these communities due to the great difficulties of finding a sensible international standard. We then try to provide some understanding factors of the dwellers ways of living through a qualitative approach by recording their speech acts of living in gated communities. After 57 interviews in Nantes and Recife, the collected state of being speeches allowed us to outline some picturing of the ways of living, bringing a new set of knowledge to the study of the drives and political handlings of this form of residence.
