The article formulates the problem of the evolution of cultural diversity on the basis of the question of scientific and technical innovation. In its most obvious forms globalization generates an extraordinary dynamic, the results of which are prodigious. However, considering humanity's existence, globalization conceals more disturbing tendencies as technologies contribute inescapably to the standardization of innovation proceedings by selecting the most efficient among them and by overrunning the other possible alternatives. The diversity of civilizations as an essential source of discovery, invention and creation tends to fade away.
