Knowledge-based methodology in pattern recognition and understanding

The interpretation and understanding of complex patterns (e.g. speech, images or other kinds of mono- or multi-dimensional signals) is related both to pattern recognition and artificial intelligence since it necessitates numerical processing as well as symbolic knoledge-based reasoning techniques.
