There is an increased interest in community participatory development through the involvement of local social actors. Development through participation has shifted the traditional paradigm by placing emphasis on a diversity of local actors, and has generated mixed results, depending on the socio-cultural context of the development area. The sociocultural characteristics of the local respondents may provide clues that can prove helpful in optimising the strategy of social intervention.
