Artefact

ARTEFACT is a biannual French language academic journal that aims to promote research into the techniques and material practices in human societies over the longue durée. Its ambition is to bring together historical, archeological and anthropological approaches that give a central role to techniques and technologies (understood in the broadest sense) in their research questions or analyses. The journal is also interested in reflections about the material and conceptual tools of historians and archeologists. There exists a multiplicity of sources concerning technical activities and the journal is particularly keen on publishing research on technical patrimony (writings, images, objects, sites). Our approach to techniques and technologies is thus very open with regard to possible themes, methods and epistemic questions.
