Le banissement et l'incivilité sur la scène pré-moderne anglaise

Marginality and ostracization are frequently associated with the notion of banishment. This paper investigates the way marginality is often specifically encoded as incivility or savagery when related to banishment, and how this is used to negotiate the relationship between the individual and the polis in various early modern English plays. Works considered include the Entertainment at Kenilworth, by George Gascoigne, and Shakespeare's As You Like It and Cymbeline.
