We discuss here the theses developed by Jean-Claude Milner on Spinoza in his work The Wise Trickster, and more generally on Europe and the Jews in his works The Criminal Penchants of Democratic Europe, The Jew of Knowledge and The Present’s Arrogance. We show that “the Jewish name” as Milner understands it, can disappear, as have many other names and words of every language, without implying the “persecution” of the words or the persons. On the contrary, the imposition of “the Jewish name” might paradoxically somewhat resemble the anti-Semitism that Milner denounces. (Tr. Jack Stetter)
