At Burgille, in the pars rustica of a large villa, two workshops were established during the sec-ond half of the 4th century AD to recycle iron and copper-alloy artefacts. At the end of that cen-tury, when the residential part of the villa was abandoned, metalworking activity shifts towards production structures located in a new area. Recycling is then extended even to immovable fix-tures and concentrates on reclaiming lead. The entire salvage and recycling process, i.e. salvage, breaking up, casting, shaping of ingots and reuse of raw materials, could be observed.
