A recent survey of coastal setting caves has been conducted on the carbonate islands of the Guadeloupean Archipelago. Caves and rockshelters generally open on raised marines terraces and cliffs. The most abundant caves are flank margin caves, crevasse caves and marine caves. Caves also include fossil stream caves and rockshelters. Examples of cave's infillings are described. Sedimentary processes and environmental control of deposits are discussed. A succession of lithofacies related to the marine sea level fall is recognised. Fossil bones recovered in the cave deposits also point out to the existence of vertebrate paleontological sites in Guadeloupe.
