How one could use a medium which never get any receptor ? Does it even remain a medium ? Created in september 1899, L'Écho Sioniste is the first and for many years the single sionist newspaper written in french language. Despite its editor's passion, the newspaper doesn't' receive any positive echo from the jew elites in France. Then it focuses it's attention on the jews borned in the Russian Empire and vanishes in 1905. The fiasco of its propaganda could be easily explained by the aggressive and moralizing rhetoric used in the newspaper. L'Écho Sioniste soon appeared to the historians as a main historical source to understand the difficulties encountered by Zionism to find a basis in France. In the meantime couldn't this newspaper be read with more profit as the identity mirror of its writers ? Doesn't it allow to shine on the complex facets of those Zionist pioneers ?
