The continuous and global growth of suburban areas and their progressive political and technical organization through intermunicipal councils requires more and more the elaboration of tools for territory knowledge. Nevertheless heterogeneity of these composite areas, multiplicity of concerned themes and weakness of resources related to geographical data questions the nature and the uses of GIS in specific if not unusual terms.
