Because of the vicinity of one of the largest cities in the world, cultivated platforms (chinampas) built by Amerindians in the lakes of the basin of Mexico City are now in a catastrophic situation. The lack water threatens the survival of this ancient site. How to save the remaining part, improving the economic, environmental and social of people, always very numerous? Xochimilco intends to maintain its status as a World Cultural Heritage, and has not happened to be in "danger" and that "clings" to the historic center of Mexico's declaration of UNESCO. One of the recurring difficulties comes from the fact that each authority reacts in isolation. Then, the different levels of decision (national, regional, and local) must be absolutely and related provisions concerning water should be prioritized. It seems that today, the effort of coordination between institutions and citizen participation implemented in 2004 is paying off, with a focus on multiple objectives that are implemented to build a sustainable transformation to benefit from the new processes for gathering of heritage values. The momentum after the workshop by UNESCO Project SIRCHAL - Xochimilco, a temporary mission, play a very positive role in the initiation between all actors.
