Excellens in arte non debet mori

Abstract. In this paper, I clarify some aspects of the Neapolitan mathematician Nicola Trudi. In particular, I prove that Trudi was a member of the mathematical school of Fergola and Flauti and that his scientific career was supported by Flauti. However, when the Kingdom of two Sicilies was dissolved and annexed to the Savoy kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, the relationship between Trudi and Flauti broke out and Trudi attempted to hide his past.
