The focus of this text is the role played by silence - by the complete absence of words - in the making of certain types of postcolonial trauma. The article is a response to three bodies of work : photography, video and text from Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As these bodies of work are large and space is limited, the article centers on one core question that links them inexorably : what happens to our singularity, to the features that make us individually us, in the face of rage rendered mute ? The works addressed are by artist-cum-writers Hervé Yamguen (Cameroon) and Mowoso Collective (DRC).
