Remittances and incentive to migrate: An epidemic approach of migration

Migrants' remittances should b e considered as one of the determinants of migration ows, since they have an economic impact on recipient economies, and can play a signaling role concerning the actual economic conditions in countries. In b oth cases, the decision to migrate may b e interpreted as the result of a contagion o ccurring through the receipt of remittances. We therefore use an epidemic mo del to formalize such mechanisms, and include these feedback e ects in the migrants' dynamics. This mo del allows us to understand the role played by various parameters including this contagion factor in order to appraise the impact of di erent public p olicies on the total numb er of migrants
