Optimal approach minimizing aircraft noise and fuel consumption

The objective of this paper is to develop a model to find and evaluate optimal flight paths in order to minimize aircraft noise levels around airports and fuel consumption. Aircraft flight dynamics and trajectories have been considered. A continuous descent approach has been found to be the optimal approach procedure minimizing noise levels and fuel consumption. Performance of optimal approach procedure and its comparison to Integrated Noise Model standard procedures have been presented and discussed.
