Weights & measures related to the oriental pearl trade : the origin of the "chau".

The paper presents the history of valuating the oriental pearls (Red sea, Arabian Gulf and former Ceylon) and discuss about difficulties of calculations through the use of different weights. It also brings a new discovery about the mass unit in use for valuating the pearls : the chau.
