Guerilla y Resistencia campesina traces the origins and development of anti-Francoist resistance in the Aragon region, from 1939 to 1952. Essentially a guerrilla movement, the resistance developed in the region's mountainous zones and in close contact with a rural population that had already lived through the trauma of the Civil War and the post-war periods. By detailing the various efforts of the guerrilla resistance as well as the strategies devised by local authorities to combat it, this study analyzes the reorganization of social, political, and economic relations in the rural villages of Aragon during the period named "first Francoism." The connection between the guerrilla movement and the rural sympathizers forming support and supply chains receives particular attention, focusing above all on the role of the women who were very present within these networks. In fact, the conflict experienced during this period of Spanish history reveals the politicization of certain sectors of rural society, notably amongst rural women. Through contact with both guerrilla fighters and the direct repression of the Francoist dictatorship, numerous rural inhabitants - male and female - experienced an accelerated awakening of a political consciousness. Through an interdisciplinary approach incorporating social, comparative, anthropological, and oral history, this study simultaneously constitutes both a chronicle of anti-Francoist guerrilla movements and an analysis of the structural issues presented by quotidian existence in 1940's Aragon.
