Infrared Thermography for the Nondestructive Inspection of CFRP Strengthening : From the research laboratory to field application

Strengthening or retrofitting of reinforced concrete structures by externally bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) systems is now a commonly accepted and widespread technique. The use of bonding techniques, however, always requires following rigorous installation procedures. Conformance checking through an in-place auscultation of the bonded FRP systems is highly recommended. The quality control program should involve a set of appropriate inspections and tests. Because it's rapid and efficient and can be readily used in the field, active infrared thermography shows promise as a nondestructive inspection technique that can be used as a quality control check during installation.
