Impact of the introduction of reclaimed asphalt 'RA' on the properties of cold mixes

The aim of this research work is to determine the properties of a laboratory-made cold mix containing a high Reclaimed Asphalt (RA) content, and to compare them with those of a cold mix including virgin aggregates and manufactured with the same bitumen emulsion. In this study, mixes components have been first characterised. Second, the gyratory shear compaction and the stripping resistance of these mixes have been evaluated. Third, the stiffness of the mixtures and the properties of their extracted binders have been assessed. The results show an effect of the introduction of RA on compressive strengths and complex modulus. Finally, a comparison between the translation coefficients (necessary for building the master curves) of the mixtures and their recovered binders is discussed.
