Numerical modeling and experimental study of a box-section tube bundle thermal energy storage for free-cooling of buildings

A numerical model able to simulate the thermal behavior of an energy storage made of a bundle of rectangular tubes is presented. This model take into account the close-contact melting phenomenon due to the decreasign density of the PCM as it melts. The numerical results are presented and discussed. Finally, an experimental study is performed to validate the modelling approach.
