A Socio-Anthropological Approach to Daily Life: Automatism, Routines and Choices

This article intends to present the principal socio-anthropological contents about everyday life, especially those written in the French language. It also proposes to synthesize a particular research perspective (a theoretical viewpoint) constructed through twenty years of fieldwork in this area of sociology. Second, it explains why it is useful to distinguish the concepts way of life and lifestyle for describing the mechanically common activities on one hand, and personal routines on the other hand. Finally, the paper suggests an approach in terms of kinds of life which integrate more the ideas of projects and choices.
