La particule a-t-elle un statut dans la grammaire de l'anglais ?

The aim of this article is to examine the way the word « particle » is used in English grammar. For a long time, the term referred to indeclinable words. It is now used for linguistic units that do not seem to fit into the various word classes set up by grammarians. The list is open but usually includes the relative pronoun that, the infinitive marker to and the various adverbial particles. In some grammars, these units are incorporated into one of the pre-established word classes.
